Rainbow Awards JAX Honoring the LGBTQIA Community in Jacksonville

April 21, 2018

share this post:

When I saw that David Vandygriff was looking for a photographer for Rainbow Awards JAX it took me about 5 seconds to jump on the opportunity. I’ve noticed something about my portfolio lately, and that was that it’s looking a little whitewashed. It happened by accident but it’s a something I’m working on changing! I want clients to know that I am an ally, that I am inclusive of everyone. This is just one of many steps I’m working on to correct the look of Ashley Morton Photography.

I say this, not to make this event about me, but because over the course of the evening at Rainbow Awards, I saw first hand the difference allies can make and what an inclusive, supportive community can mean for individual lives and for the city as a whole.

But enough about me, let’s talk about the people doing serious work in the LGBT community. I want to share with you a bit about David Vandygriff, a community activist and business owner. He created the Rainbow Awards JAX in April of 2011 in an effort to honor local businesses, individuals, organizations, charities & groups to help bring a POSITIVE awareness of the role LGBTQIA play in helping develop Jacksonville into a large, diverse, and accepting place to live, play, and work.

Hi Ashley, Do you have a link to additional photos from the event?. My friend, Emily, won for her work with JASMYN and I do not see one photo of her. I also do not see one photo of Troy Frauqhar or several of the other winners. Also, just a suggestion, but the font for this website is very light. I can see it, but I think it might pose a problem for those with vision problems. Thanks!
