As a fellow military spouse, military homecomings will always hold a special place in my heart. There is so much I can identify with my clients. The trial of being separated from your spouse for months on end. The excitement of having them home. The nervous anticipation of homecoming day. Occasionally I get more emotional than my clients!
Michelle and Tyler’s homecoming was typical of many military homecoming. In that, the time and date changed approximately 152 times prior to his plane actually touching down. Michelle and I couldn’t help but laugh at one point. Sometimes, if you don’t laugh in this life, you will cry. How typical of a military homecoming. But we made it through the long week and the day had finally arrived. It was a brisk and beautiful morning, warm but not unbearably hot. At times it was even perfectly overcast, something homecoming photographers pray for. The hanger was full of excited family, friends, and fellow service members.
Michelle was even rewarded for all of her patience by winning first hug! First hug (and first kiss) are some of my favorite homecoming traditions. For each homecoming one sailor’s family wins the first hug, and another wins the first kiss. They sailors are typically the first off the plane (or ship) and they get to hug and kiss their spouse or kids. It’s the sweetest tradition and one I was excited to capture. Michelle and Tyler did not disappoint, their excitement was written across their faces.
Once the initial reunion was over we took a few minutes to take a few posed photos before I let them head away to continue the celebration. Congratulations on your reunion Michelle and Tyler, I’m so honored to capture this moment for you.
